Printing Guide

Once you’ve finished personalizing your Iris & Dill template, you can print it at home or through a professional printing service. This guide covers the basics so you can choose the right file type, paper, and printing option for your design.

Before You Print

Take a final look through your design before downloading it. Double-check names, dates, times, addresses, spelling, and any other event details.

We also recommend ordering or printing one test copy before placing a large order. Colors and sizing can look slightly different in print than they do on your screen.

Which File Type Should I Use?

For most professional printing, we recommend downloading your design from Canva as a PDF Print file.

For printing at home, PDF Print is also usually the best choice.

If you’re sending your design digitally by text or email, JPG or PNG will generally work better.

Your printing provider may have its own file requirements, so always check before submitting your order.

Printing at Home

Many Iris & Dill designs can be printed using a home printer.

For the best results:

  • Use high-quality cardstock or paper appropriate for your design.

  • Select your printer’s highest-quality print setting.

  • Make sure your printer is set to print at 100% or Actual Size unless your design requires different settings.

  • Print a test copy before printing multiples.

Home printers vary, so your final colors and print quality may differ depending on your printer, ink, and paper.

Professional Printing

You can also take or upload your finished file to a local print shop, office supply store, or online printing service.

Professional printing can be a good option for invitations, larger quantities, specialty paper, or oversized signs.

When ordering, make sure the finished print size matches the dimensions listed with your Iris & Dill template.

Paper Recommendations

The best paper will depend on the design and how you plan to use it.

For invitations and other stationery, a heavier matte or smooth cardstock usually creates a polished finish.

For signs or larger event pieces, your printer may offer heavier cardstock, poster paper, foam board, or other mounting options.

If you’re unsure, ask your printing provider which material they recommend for your selected size and use.

Bleed and Trim Marks

Some professional printers may ask for bleed or crop marks.

If your design includes artwork or color that extends all the way to the edge, your printer may require a bleed area so the finished design can be trimmed cleanly.

Check your printer’s requirements before downloading your final file. Canva allows you to include crop marks and bleed when exporting certain print files.

Why Do My Printed Colors Look Different?

Slight color differences between your screen and printed product are normal.

Screens display color differently from printers, and the final result can also be affected by your monitor settings, printer, ink, paper, and printing method.

Because of these differences, Iris & Dill cannot guarantee an exact color match between the digital preview and your printed product.

Printing Larger Signs

If your purchase includes a sign, make sure you download and print the exact size included with your template.

Resizing a design outside its intended dimensions may change the layout or reduce image quality.

For larger signs, we recommend using a professional printer and confirming their file and sizing requirements before placing your order.

Using a Printing Service

You may provide your completed Iris & Dill file to a professional printing service for the purpose of printing materials for your personal event.

Please provide the finished file rather than sharing your editable Canva template link.
